Initially Pakistan had just one weak point against India, which it has since been capitalizing on – the Kashmir Valley. However, over the years it has acquired numerous instigating inlets to our country. The worrisome part is that it is no more focussing on stimulating direct violence from the vulnerable communities but is acting on creating a long term instigation campaign against India.
The military and terrorist infiltrations are more of a distraction to deviate security forces from the larger game Pakistan is playing against India, by targeting youth of the country. As per NIAs recent report on terror funding in Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan has not just been recruiting terrorists but also brainwashing young generations of Jammu & Kashmir. Pakistan not only opened its door to education of medical and engineering students from Jammu & Kashmir, but it has also provided them with financial aid. As per the report, a majority of these students were relatives of terrorists who migrated to Pakistan.
This now raises a larger question that, is the use of soft power just to influence and help relatives of the PoK-based Hurriyat sympathisers and the recommendations sent are only for the relatives of terrorists and not extended furthermore?
Perhaps, we are ignoring an important angle of a structured psychological attack by Pakistan. The plan is not restricted to brainwashing the youth of J&K only but all the vulnerable inlets of the country like the minorities, for creating an anti-India sentiment.
Pakistan and other extremist external forces like ISIS, have already been running social campaigns on media pages and communities for the purpose of radicalization. Since, the government is already taking various anti-radicalization measures, external forces are now looking for a plan B, simultaneously. They are now planning to lure vulnerable sections of the Indian society to achieve dual objectives. The preaching of extreme Islam and creation of Anti-India sentiment.
Internet today is an information web, which serves as a platform for the flow of such soft power. However, there are also physical agencies working as NGOs, stimulating the process to achieve the larger objective of creating nationwide insurgency in the coming years.
Today, information is an impactful weapon of warfare. A false propaganda and an enraged sympathy, both, have the potential of bringing down empires. India, which is a multicultural and economically progressive country, stands at the edge of vulnerability to such information warfare attacks.
Countering them calls for a systematic inspection of data. Even the reports submitted by NIA, the nexus was substantiated through the chats retrieved from their emails accounts, Whatsapps, Facebook profiles and websites. There is a need to have a proactive approach for filtering information. Big data analytics can be both used for prevention and solution of such attacks. It’s high time we get engaged with building a strong digital intelligence security apparatus to defend against such attacks.
