Can you imagine getting your online order delivered by the CEO of an e-commerce company himself? It’s not out of the realm of possibility, but it’s certainly not standard procedure!
Flipkart CEO Sachin Bansal, who wanted to understand and resolve the challenges faced by the delivery boys, stepped out of his comfort zone as a delivery man himself. The objective was also to gain insights into the online buyer’s psyche. It was refreshing to see this out of the box thinking and management tactics which could help the company in making its delivery process more seamless and less taxing.
In a first, the corporate biggie went out in the sun and delivered goods to various customers. While Flipkart has grown to become an e-commerce giant, valued at over $15 billion, this initiative reminds me of Flipkart’s baby years way back in 2007, when the two Bansals, Sachin and Binny, moved swiftly on their scooters on the roads of Bengaluru to deliver books.
The duo was debuted on Forbes’ rich list this year, with an estimated wealth of about $ 1.3 billion each. Their personal assets have swelled in direct proportion to the company’s wealth. They want more. Sachin Bansal says “We want to learn more about the market, customers and understand what the need is for the future, also to thank them”. Along with publicising their company, there were crucial feedbacks that Flipkart plans to address. The idea to go out and directly interact is not ingenious, but it certainly makes a lot of difference in the company’s image. It could also inspire others to take similar initiatives.
