By strategically planning their exit from India on the eve of the ‘International Yoga Day’, Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra successfully managed to evade responding to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call.
Modi had been very vocal in his appeal, requesting people to adopt yoga as a way of life. Opposition parties, led by Rahul Gandhi and senior Congress leaders, came out heavily on the Government for pushing yoga into everyone’s life. Clearly, the Congress and the others are not really opposed to Yoga, they are making noise because it is the initiative of the BJP Government. Even the Muslim community is opposed to the idea of yoga being made mandatory, despite the Government clarifying that it is not compulsory. Why are we still continuing to engage in petty politics?
It is really a sad state of affairs where people are keeping religious sentiments ahead of health. Out of the 177 countries co-sponsoring the International Yoga Day, as many as 47 are Islamic countries. Why are Indian Muslims so ignorant and fundamentalist?
There were close to 36,000 people, a Guinness world record, who practiced yoga with PM Modi leading from the front. Yoga extends our lives, it makes it better in terms of quality, it keeps diseases away…the benefits are magical. Why would anyone oppose healthy way of life?
Congress spokesperson says Sonia Gandhi has gone for a medical check up. Even it’s true, the timing is too convenient and raises question marks on her intent. What was Rahul Gandhi’s agenda? He resurfaced from a long, mysterious sabbatical only recently, why the need to disappear once again? Will he come back?
By avoiding Yoga, the Gandhis have not accomplished any victory, rather, their disappearing act has brought their egotistical tendencies to light. It reflects badly upon their already beleaguered reputation. Sonia Gandhi would have been the bigger person if she left politics aside and joined Narendra Modi in his endeavour to spread awareness about better health. She would have gained immense support for her gesture. Instead, she chose to let politics take over her senses.
