The Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha, an organisation that feeds on the weak today, was formed to defend the rights of the Hindu community in British India, right after the formation of the All India Muslim League in 1906. Today, there is no genuine purpose to its existence, and can generally be found engaging in meaningless, fanatic activities, like the launching of a website dedicated to the Mahatma Gandhi killer, Nathuram Godse. The site has been launched to commemorate November 15, the day Godse was hanged – as ‘Balidan Diwas’. Godse was a proven member of the Mahasabha, and a fierce critic of Gandhi for his accommodating overtures to Muslims.
The Hindu organisation’s hatred for Gandhi is well documented…Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, a revolutionary leader of the Hindu Mahasabha, didn’t really believe in an independent India. He did not participate in any anti-British activity, and was an intense opponent of the Congress party and its policy of wooing Muslims.
Savarkar claimed that Gandhi’s adherence to non-violence had left Hindus vulnerable to armed attacks by militant Muslims. When the partition of India was agreed upon in June 1947, after months of failed efforts at power-sharing between the Congress and the League, the Mahasabha condemned the Congress and Gandhi for agreeing to the partition plan.
On January 30, 1948 Nathuram Godse killed Mahatma Gandhi with three shots to the chest. Godse was identified as a prominent member of the Hindu Mahasabha. Police also arrested Savarkar, who was suspected of being the mastermind behind the plot. While the trial resulted in Godse’s conviction and subsequent death by hanging, Savarkar was released on a technicality, even though there was evidence that the plotters met Savarkar only days before carrying out the murder and had received the blessings of Savarkar. The Kapur Commission in 1967 established that Savarkar was in close contact with the plotters for many months.
There was an angry popular backlash against Savarkar, Godse and the Hindu Mahasabha. The Hindu Mahasabha was boycotted, shamed, and marginalised. Its one-time rising star, Shyama Prasad Mookerjee, left the party and established the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, precursor to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Today, the Hindu Mahasabha only has a marginal presence in parts of the Indian state of Maharashtra, and negligible instances through the rest of the country, yet, it behaves like the moral police, without any authority or mandate.
In 2015, vice president of All India Hindu Mahasabha, Sadhvi Deva Thakur made a stunning remark, saying Muslims and Christians must undergo sterilisation to restrict their growing population, which was posing a threat to Hindus. She added: “The population of Muslims and Christians is growing day by day. To rein in this, Centre will have to impose emergency, and Muslims and Christians will have to be forced to undergo sterilisation so that they can’t increase their numbers.” This is the reality of Hindu Mahasabha, and the people who created it.
The website will reportedly tackle the propaganda against Godse, “the nationalist martyr” who was “ignored by Gandhi’s stooge, Nehru and forgotten by even Hindu party like BJP”.
Beware of this breed…
