Pulled out of classroom, handcuffed & suspended: Ahmed Mohamed is the latest victim of USA’s Islamophobia!

During science classes, I opted out of the robotics. It was too intricate a science, requiring absolute focus and the aptitude. I possessed very little, but I have always been fascinated by the construction, design, control and the final application of the robots… the possibilities it carried.

It has been often assumed that robots will one day have the ability to mimic human behaviour and manage tasks in a human-like fashion. Many robots do jobs that are fatally dangerous to people, such as defusing bombs, mines and exploring shipwrecks. Every time I read about robots, I want to be a part of it, from a distance… Tangling wires and weird circuits were never my thing, but when I read about a particular episode in the US, I was jarred.

A 14-year-old Muslim boy, Ahmed Mohamed, was picked up from his class on the suspicion that he was possibly involved in making bombs. The lanky kid, arrested by the Texas police for creating a clock which others presumed to be a ‘bomb’, is now on the lookout for another school, because this one has broken his heart and faith in the institution of justice and fair play. There is no guarantee that the next school will be humanely different, but there is hope, at least.

Ahmed is a genius with engineering, gadgets and everything to do with robots. He invented multiple objects over the years and was very popular among his school-mates for his brilliance… alas, he is a Muslim living in a country where even the Americans avoid keeping beard for fear of being mistaken for a Muslim, leading to questioning and perhaps, even torture…

He was destined to become a great scientist one day, till he decided to make a clock, a clock that he proudly brought to school to showcase… The authorities, mind badly mixed up and confused, and paranoid, handcuffed the kid and had him suspended on bomb-making charges.

The Americans are wary of everything related to Muslims, it’s exaggerated and usually inexplicable. The US has suffered the wrath of the Muslim fundamentalists, lives have been lost, but Islam is an ocean of humanity. A handful of terrorists have maligned the entire community, but what is more appalling is that the US has stopped making any sense of its actions. Look at this Muslim boy!

Islamophobia has gripped the western countries and it may be justified, but only to an extent. Beyond that, it becomes a disease…

Since 9/11, the Muslim-American community has helped security and law enforcement officials prevent nearly two of every five Al Qaeda terrorist plots threatening the United States, and their tips are the largest single source of initial information to authorities about these plots.

Unfortunately, this trend of hating Muslims could be motivated. According to “Fear, Inc.,” a report by the Center for American Progress, a network of misinformation experts actively promotes Islamophobia in America. The promotion of Islamophobia creates both prejudice and discrimination among the general population. Prejudice plays a key role in the existence and proliferation of Islamophobia.

The United States need to look within before terrorizing innocent people, even if they happened to be Muslims.
