My best friend Rajeev grew up in a joint family, a family having their front door garnered with a horse shoe to bring the positive vibes in their home and ward off the negative energy. As you enter their living room you will be descending into a Feng-Shui show room. Wind chimes played by the winds on each of the windows creating a harmony with the sparkling sunlight that was filtering through the window pane. An enormous fish tank with goldfish in it and the water fountain just a look at this makes you deep down. The lucky bamboo in the corner of the room is grown to few feet and as I was staring at those beautiful bamboos, Rajeev proudly announced “look, how lucky we are”.
Indian society is an amalgamation of culture, religion, faith and trust that leads to superstition, blind faith and many abnormal beliefs. It could be a blessing or a curse that depends on the individual perspective. Wearing the multi jewelled rings, the holy beads around the neck, avoiding eating sweets before going out are the few actions that are inculcated into our daily life. We are clueless about the base of these beliefs and still we follow them with all our heart or defy them as they are the bad omen on our life.
However, superstition make and break many faiths, trust and an entire realm of religion stands on it. Thinking about them as cautionary warning can be a stupidity because many of the superstition/belief is proven by science now.
- Superstition is the base for the hopes of millions: Many go out of their home taking precautions (superstitions/beliefs) that they will be having a good day or a safe journey.
- Superstition is mainly backed by the science: Now many of the superstition are proven by science like
o Sitting on ground while having your meal- improves your digestion
o Having your food with your hands rather than with spoons
o The precious stones which are suggested by the astrologers are actually very effective- the sun rays which pass through the gems are very good for your health and can help with many health ailments.
- Feng- Shui the soothing pebbles of superstition: The Feng Shui is the Chinese version of superstition which like Chinese products has overtaken the world; actually everything that Feng Shui includes is simply soothing. From the aquarium, to the waterfall, to the laughing Buddha every aspect of Feng Shui just makes you JOLLY.
Science and Superstition go hand in hand. So even though you are tagged superstitious, be proud of it because you are aware of the fact of your beliefs and you their importance in your life. Be yourself and be proud.
