In this day and age of live-in relationships (read: testing waters before actually getting hooked), it’s a little appalling to know that a mature, seasoned man, like Shahid Kapoor, could agree for a match fixed by his parents.
We associate arranged marriages with regressive people, who either don’t have the calibre, or the aptitude, to explore a real relationship that could progress and culminate into a long term commitment. And a long-term commitment it is!
We all know about the intensely emotional and eventually tumultuous affair between Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. While Kareena moved on with her new found wisdom, we’d expect Shahid to also use his experience and find a suitable match to settle down with.
Enter Mira Rajput, 14 years his junior, still carrying tote bags to class and living the life of a recently-retired teenager. Do you see a match?
Well, apparently, the fathers did. They met on the banks of the river Beas, and were serenaded by the Satsangs at the Radha Soami ashram.
Here’s how I see it… Pankaj Kapoor and Mr Rajput, while sipping chhaas in the ashram, noticed their little ones in the background, and in true 70s movie style, decide to turn their ‘dosti’ into ‘rishteydari’.
The pretty and petite Mira Rajput appears to make the perfect ‘bahurani’ for Sasha, the quintessential Bollywood brat! It is a refreshing change after the feisty and strong-headed Kareena Kapoor. Shahid still nursing his wounded ego, seeing the news of the new ‘Begum of Pataudi’, quickly agrees.
As for Mira, who wouldn’t pick a Bollywood hottie over a struggling Coca-Cola professional? But from what I hear, the choice wasn’t easy. After all, a coca-cola professional has a far more promising career than a Bollywood hero, who is quickly being overtaken by the likes of Ranveer Singh and Varun Dhawan.
So our Mira has her day of designer lehengas, celebrity-mehendi artists and paan-walas flying in from Jaipur to give her the perfect Bollywood wedding.
And would it be a celebrity wedding without the typical media bashing and efforts to keep the venue a secret? Apparently, a poor dholwala was roughed up by Shahid Kapoor himself for taking a few harmless pictures on his cell phone.
With the wedding over and the Missus nicely tucked at home, Sasha returns on the sets of ‘Jhalak Dikhlaja Reloaded’, nicely packaged to be available to his salivating female fans.
After all, who can set asunder, what daddies joined together!
Another one bites the dust and I hope our ‘dilli ki ladkee’, Mira Rajput Kapoor, has a happily married life ahead.
All the best, Shahid, treasure the simple girl you married. After all, not everyone can end up with royalty!
