Amitabh Bachchan is very close to being 75, but the ‘angry young man’ just doesn’t let up. He is doing more films than Aamir Khan each year. Hell, he is doing more films than his son, Abhishek Bachchan! Wait, hang on. Abhishek is a wrong example.. he is not even getting any work, so he has no choice… Producers and directors still cast Big B in leading roles, even if they are character based.
Physically, or rather facially, he appears 10 years younger. Without doubt, Big B has gotten various jobs done to enhance his looks. But that’s alright, the profession demands marketable appearance. He cannot allow wrinkles to come too soon. He can hide only so much with his French beard. Glasses cover quite a bit of the region around his eyes. So he must be taking good care of the exposed cheek and forehead region. He is a responsible actor, he ensures that his producers get their money’s worth.
That’s as far as his acting goes. A great actor with a history of superhits.
As a businessman, Amitabh Bachchan couldn’t have been more badly advised!
He floated Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited and it bombed big time. Managing events and film production were its virtues. Bringing Miss World pageant to India in 1996 is the only feather in its cap. All the money he had invested in ABCL evaporated into thin air. The loss was great and the affect pitiable. Big B stood on the brink of extinction. He found himself caught in the middle of a serious legal web. He lost all of his investors’ money and faced the prospect of being put behind bars. It was Amar Singh who bailed him out of the mess.
It became more embarrassing for Amitabh Bachchan. The Bombay High Court restrained him from selling off his Mumbai bungalow – ‘Prateeksha’- and the two flats till the pending loan recovery cases of Canara Bank were dealt with.
Big B and the aura around him was all gone. In his own words: “In the year 2000, when the entire world was celebrating the new century, I was celebrating my disastrous fortune. There were no films, no money, no company, a million legal cases against and the tax authorities had put notice of recovery on my home.”
Suddenly, he was reduced to imploring for movies. He went to Yash Chopra and got ‘Mohabbatein’. Soon after, he managed ‘Kaun Banega crorepati’. Although there is no evidence to substantiate the claims, some critics say he did certain’questional acts’ to come out of the mess he was in.
Today, I would urge him to bow out with a bang. Give a smashing hit, call it a day. Bring the curtains down now. It’s quite a bit more than enough. Don’t reduce life to just work. Give it more respect. Spend time with your grandchildren, give back to society. Indulge in philanthropy and don’t worry about Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai will handle him. She will take care of him.
God give him many more healthy years, but his end can’t be too far. He should look to give closure to his ‘adhuri kahani’ with Rekha. Make sure there are no regrets.
In conclusion, stop doing meaningless, unbecoming advertisements. Get some gravitas in your life.
